From 1810 to 1825, most of Spain’s colonies begin to want independence. Most of the rebellion was coming from Latin America. Most of the colonies won independence and formed republics. In 1806, Francisco de Miranda a native-born Venezuelan attempted with British help to liberate Venezuela but did not secede. He later tried again but Simon Bolivar had joined him this time. By 1822, Simon Bolivar had spent several years fighting for the independence for Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Then he decided to free Peru because that was the strongest Spanish colony. New Granada, which was made up of present day Colombia, panama, and Ecuador. They began to rebel against Spain about the same time as Venezuela. He saw that Cartagena and Bogota were having conflicts because they all had their own ideas about their government. Simon Bolivar did not try to fix New Granada’s conflicts. He began to write in newspapers about his ideas and that caught the attention of several people. The manifesto of Cartagena was a document explaining that they should all work together to gain freedom from Spain. The government was impressed and the people were touched. Cartagena and Caracas had Spanish post around them and Simon Bolivar was told to only protect the boarders but he saw it as an opportunity to attack the Spaniards and he and his 200 men did. The Spanish were in so much confusion that they left ammunition and ships behind and left. From there he kept gaining more power before it was 200 men then 300 and it continued to rise until he had his arm. When Simon bolivar and his men covered 600 miles to Caracas he had 6,000 Spanish solders fled and dozens of cities were liberated. He soon became known as one of the greatest military heroes in history but it was a secured position. He tried to recreate the order in Caracas but was not able to. In 1813, he was able to free Venezuela. Just a year later, he had to flee to Jamaica because he had gained control over Bogotá but he could not keep it under control. He returned after two years and defeated the Spanish again and New Granada. He was then later chosen as president of la gran Colombia. In 1821, he finally decided to free Peru, which was the last and most powerful place that was under Spanish control in South America. He had wanted a government like that of the United States. But instead, each country took its own route.
