My teacher had recommended that we look on the NHD website to search for topics if we were having difficulties finding a topic. Therefore, after I made a list of the topics I narrowed it down to the top two, which were Simon bolivar and the Latin American independence or the war on poverty. It was very difficult to decide between the two. But in the end, I chose Simon bolivar and the Latin American independence. I also wanted to inform people who Simon Bolivar is because people in the United States are not aware of who he is.
At first, I went online and searched on Google because I was not able to go to the library that day. Then several list of websites about Simon Bolivar’s biography appeared and I took bits and pieces of information about him and put them in my own words. When I went to the library, I could not find any books because I searched for the title Simon Bolivar, and no search results came up. However, the next day I told my teacher what happened and he suggested searching different titles. Therefore, I went to the library again but that time I looked up for Simon bolivar instead of under books, I searched it under word or phrases. Two books appeared, one of them I checked out the other I put on hold because it was still currently checked out. Since I could not find any more books, I searched for books online and found several. I also asked my aunt and my grandmother because they were born in South America so over there they are taught about Simon bolivar in school.
I chose to do a website. I thought that was the best one that suited me because I always have to write essays, make boards, and I can’t really act very well. But with the website, I have made one in the past so I have experience. The documentary seemed difficult because I don’t have the materials to make a documentary. I just really enjoy making websites, because I know what to do and I’m not completely lost.
The NHD theme is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History. My topic really relates to the theme because Simon Bolivar all he wanted is freedom from Spain. He saw that it was injustice that some people just because of their race they should be treated better than other people. Also, my topic relates to the theme because not only did he think it was wrong but that he actually stood up for what he believed in and made a difference. Since he stood up for what he believed in it made a big difference. Today because of one persons actions South America is no longer under the control of Spain, and now they are all their own countries. Simon bolivar was brave to revolt against Spain because anyone who dared to was sentenced to death. So one person can make a big difference.
